OUR STORY

Mundito Spanish began as virtual Spanish lessons during the Covid-19 pandemic. After years of teaching overseas, founder Casey Cabbage began creating lesson plans for students grades K-5. Her vision was to bring the best of what she had learned abroad back to the students of her community.

In the fall of 2022, Mundito Spanish opened its first location in Nashville, offering us a safe environment to provide the most effective and hands on learning experience for students in grades K-5.

The Difference

We are different from many other language programs because we have been able to take educational approaches from our experiences of teaching all over the world and bring it back here to Nashville. We have used what we have learned from these experiences to create a curriculum that ignites a passion for not just language, but for culture as well.

Our Approach

We believe in one simple educational approach: it is not a one size fits all. We utilize several different teaching styles and strategies in one small class session, because students have different ways of learning and we very much value that here. Because our classes are 90 minutes long, you can expect them to follow this tentative schedule:

  • 5 minutes energizer/warm up activity
  • 10-15 minutes vocabulary review (from previous class)
  • 40-45 minutes Spanish lesson
  • 25-30 minutes of tiempo libre/study time (self guided learning time) and merienda (snack)

*Snack is prepared by staff as a way to further immerse students in the Spanish culture; we hand pick recipes from different countries and cultures based on our distinct experiences and continue to introduce our students to new, healthy, and interesting opportunities to explore new things!

During our self guided learning time, students will have the opportunity to pull out any games, activities, worksheets, etc that have been hand crafted by Mundito Spanish teachers to go along with the curriculum. This is their opportunity to further their learning from class time using whichever learning style works best for them. There will be an ADP (teachers assistant) present at all times to encourage the continued utilization of Spanish during this time.

What is the Monedas Program?

This is our classroom rewards system! In English, “moneda” means currency. Students can win three different kinds: colones, euros, or pesos. They can do so by utilizing their vocabulary, encouraging their friends, and trying new things - like snacks! They can also win moneda by getting involved in field trips, and other cultural events offered in the community. We offer lots of opportunities to win monedas inside and outside of the classroom. At the end of each semester, we celebrate our monedas, and our hard work, with a party!

Our Team

Casey Cabbage

Lead Teacher & Founder

After graduating from the University of Tennessee, founder and lead teacher Casey Cabbage left the US to begin teaching English at a Montessori school in Beijing. She taught with teachers from China, US, Africa, Mexico, and other countries. After a year and a half in Beijing, she moved to a small pueblo in Andalucia, Spain to continue teaching. She was the only English teacher at her school.

In the fall of 2021, Casey set up a small booth at an event in Nolensville and talked about her mission to build bridges through the community by sparking a passion for Spanish language and culture. Since that day, this small program has grown into something amazing!
